When you think about spring cleaning, do you think about the air quality in your home? Indoor air quality is incredibly important and often something that is overlooked. There are many things that can cause indoor air pollution like pets, cleaning products, dust mites… the list goes on.

So how do you improve your indoor air quality? The answer is simple - Homes by Avi includes Heat Recovery Venting (HRV) Systems in all of our homes. An HRV system replaces all of the bath fans in your home, but does much more than just vent the air in your home to the outside. It actually protects your home from indoor air pollution. HRV systems bring a continuous supply of fresh air into your home while exhausting an equal amount of contaminated air. During the winter, do you ever feel like your home feels stuffy or the air in your home seems stale? HRV systems prevent this feeling by constantly filtering the indoor and outdoor air. It recovers heat from exhaust air in the winter and cools incoming air in the summer. As an added bonus, installing an HRV system in your home will save on energy costs!

Of course, vacuuming is one of the first things that comes to mind when you think about cleaning. Lugging a vacuum around your home is not fun. Consider adding a vac-system to your home to make this chore much easier. Vac Systems require several components, rough-in piping throughout the home, the actual system and any components/attachments to go along with it. Your system can be either be installed in your mechanical room or your garage. We like to recommend installing your system in the garage for ease of emptying the canister! Once you decide on where your system is being installed, make sure you inquire about your other component options, for instance:

Indoor hose and attachments

Separate garage hose with attachments

Hanging rack for hose storage

Vac pans

Extras such as vac pan can be extremely helpful for day to day cleaning. Vac pans are usually installed in the toe kick of your cabinets (commonly in the kitchen) and can be turned on with a small switch to start the suction which allows you to sweep directly into the pan. This is a quick and easy way to clean without getting out the vacuum or dust pan!

Usually spring cleaning goes hand-in-hand with overall home maintenance. So while you’re cleaning your home, don’t forget to check on the following:

Furnace filters

Humidifier filters

Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors

Water filters (i.e. fridge filters)

Nothing feels better than a clean home, but instead of spending endless hours cleaning, make your life easier and build a home that almost cleans itself!
