By simply selecting eco-friendly products readily accessible in the market, each new home we build is designed to reduce its impact on the environment as well as save you money.

High Efficiency Furnace - Saves energy and improves comfort. A high-efficiency furnace with an Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) of 90% or higher is the most energy-efficient furnace available.* AFUE is a good indicator of a furnace’s ability to convert energy to heat. Therefore, the higher the AFUE percentage, the more efficient the unit is and the more energy dollars you save. (* as per greenerbuilding.org)

Programmable Thermostats - A programmable thermostat allows you to properly manage your homes heating cycle so the temperature can be set to lower levels when it's not required. Consistently lowering your heat when you don't need it can help the environment and also save you money. As a rule, for every 1° C you lower your thermostat, for a minimum of eight hours, you can save up to 2% on your annual heating bill.* (* as per Utilities Consumer Advocate of Alberta)

High Efficiency Sealed Combustion Hot Water Tank – With sealed combustion these units are safer, as they completely shield the interior of the home from Carbon Monoxide gasses by venting them directly outside. Insulation System - The right insulation system can save you money, reduce the amount of energy you use, and make your home more comfortable during each season.* Homes by Avi uses formaldehyde free batt insulation to reduce the potential health risks associated with formaldehyde binding agents commonly used in fiberglass. Our attic insulation has also been upgraded to an industry leading R40. Finally, we use water based foam insulation on all cantilevers and living areas built over unheated space to further reduce the potential for heat loss. (* as per cmhc.ca/en/co/)

Water Smart Plumbing Fixtures - The average Canadian uses approximately 340 litres of water per day. Low flow water fixtures use up to 50% less water than traditional fixtures saving hundreds or even thousands of litres of water per year.* This helps our environment and your bottom line. Low VOC Paints & Adhesives - VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) are the fumes that are given off from common paints and adhesives. Sometimes called the ‘new home smell’, it is also a known health hazard particularly for individuals with asthma.* Therefore, we’ve chosen to use materials that reduce this risk by making sure our paints and adhesives contain only minimum levels of VOCs. Low E Windows - Homes by Avi uses only Low E glass windows, recognized for their significant contribution to the reduction of heat loss/heat gain. We add argon gas - an inert, non-toxic gas that even further enhances the performance of Low E windows by providing an insulating factor almost 50% greater than that of standard double paned windows.* This means greater comfort and significantly lower energy costs.
